Fallen Leaf in Blue

I wanted to go big…really big. I bought a 5′ x 4′ canvas and went searching for a subject. I decided to take a chance, and my husky Loki, to Fallen Leaf lake in the dead of winter to find one. Oddly enough, when I got there it was almost 65 degrees in the middle of February which turned the road around the lake into an impassable combination of slush and ice. I decided to hoof it and broke out the snow shoes. I made it about half way around the lake and I took this late afternoon shot. The most interesting aspect of the scene was the palpable moisture in the air coming from evaporating snow. It played tricks with the light and gave me this painting.
